Dear YCS Families,
As we head into our second week of remote learning, I want to take a moment to thank you for your ongoing support over the past week. I know that it was a stressful and challenging week for everyone. I know that you are working hard to balance your own work at home while trying to support your child. I know that we are all trying to process the circumstances and crisis we are deeply embedded in. I know that the most important thing we should do is focus on the well being of ourselves and our family.
In an effort to support our students and families mental health as well as academic development, we are excited to offer two new Google Classrooms for you to access. These classrooms, designed by our School Psychologist, Social Worker and Guidance Counselors will provide you with strategies to support you with daily living and stressors.
The two Google Classrooms and their Class Codes for Access are:
- “Comfort and Connection Corner SEL Classroom for Pre K -2” /Class Code uxxom6b
- “Cool, Calm and Collected , SEL Classroom for Grades 3-5” / Class Code 3hjr5fg
Thank you for your feedback and understanding as we continue to reflect on ways to provide meaningful instruction to your children. With each day, our teachers are reflecting on their practice and ways to present instruction in varied forms, given that they cannot be interacting live- online, all day. We have seen a great increase in student participation and work production as we have introduced the following:
- Interactive morning meetings may include a mini lesson that will explain a daily task
- Recorded video lessons offer instruction that can be accessed at a time that works for your family
- Clearly outlined daily work plans, found in the Classwork tab
- Office hours and Q & A opportunities throughout the day.
We will continue to think about more ways to support you. We understand that it’s very hard to balance the demands of working from home with trying to also support your child. Many of our staff are also trying to juggle this as well.
We worry for our children, for our partners, for family members far away, for job security, and for those in our community who are still going to work each day as essential workers. Don’t forget to join the citywide cheer for our workers at 7:00pm every night!
We are here for you. We are listening to you. We are grateful for you.
Warmly,
Samantha
