YCS Cares – National Day of Service

At Yorkville Community School, we guide our practice around our core values, Honesty, Responsibility, Respect and Kindness. We chose these particular values because they encompass behaviors that we believe support a successful learning community. Our YCS Cares program is centered on our core values and provides ways for our students to be proactive members of our community. Each grade is responsible for partnering with an outside organization and though their thematic study culmination projects, finds a way to support that organization. In January, we celebrated the resounding life of Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King used the power of words, peaceful protest and community building to achieve extraordinary goals.  To continue the practice of Dr. King’s movement and in line with our YCS Cares program, our school participated in the National Day of Service on January 18, 2019.  Each grade …

Second Graders Raise Over $300 for the Ocean Conservancy

The Second Grade culminated their Sea Creature study by creating their own Sea Creature museums. Museum ticket sales, along with sales from the museum café and gift shops raised over $300 for the Ocean Conservancy. The Ocean Conservancy believes “It’s time to look beneath the surface to see where the health of our planet really begins. It’s time to recognize the source that sustains us day to day with the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe… To discover that all living things are connected to the ocean. It’s time to understand that going green starts with living blue. It’s time to start a sea change.” Awesome Job 2nd Graders!!
