To wrap up their bakery study, the Kindergarten classes hosted a school-wide bake sale on Friday, January 27th which raised over $600 for the Yorkville Common Pantry. The Yorkville Common Pantry is dedicated to reducing hunger while promoting dignity and self-sufficiency. YCP's community based programs focus on East Harlem and other underserved communities throughout New York City. Great job by our Kindergarten Students and their Families!!!
The Second Grade culminated their Sea Creature study by creating their own Sea Creature museums. Museum ticket sales, along with sales from the museum café and gift shops raised over $300 for the Ocean Conservancy. The Ocean Conservancy believes "It's time to look beneath the surface to see where the health of our planet really begins. It's time to recognize the source that sustains us day to day with the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe... To discover that all living things are connected to the ocean. It's time to understand that going green starts with living blue. It's time to start a sea change." Awesome Job 2nd Graders!!!
Give the Gift of Warmth this Winter! November 28th – December 21st, 2011 Have you ever wondered how many New Yorkers each winter have to choose between putting food on the table or purchasing a coat? Help New York Cares make this winter season a little warmer by participating in the YCS Coat Drive. Please donate your new or gently used coats. Items may be dropped off at morning arrival or afternoon dismissal and placed in the large cartons in both the YCS East and West lobbies. Thank you for your support!
Thank you for your generous food donations! Last week the Yorkville Common Pantry collected the food that our school community donated to those in need. YCP's Food Pantry Program is NYC's largest community-based food pantry and is designed to meet the needs of NYC families by providing culturally appropriate and nutritionally-balanced food. Every Wednesday through Saturday, YCP is able to distribute grocery packages to over 1,200 needy families. YCP was thrilled with our donations - we certainly provided food for many families this Thanksgiving holiday! Helping those that are less fortunate is an important part of being a member of a community and at YCS we are helping our children learn that important lesson. Thank you for helping support our YCS friends and neighbors! YCS Staff and YCS PTA
