GROW WITH YCS
CAMPAIGN I am thrilled to report to
you the great success of the "Grow with YCS" campaign for the PTA
General Fund. As a
result of the hard work of Maria Mischel, Christina Taber-Kewene,
Mary Yuen and Jane Zennario, over the past week we have received a
total of 66 donations (55 new families and 11 repeat) for a
total of $24,034.93! This brings our school participation
rate for the General Fund to 47% for the school year to date. UPPER EAST SIDE
SCHOOL RE-ZONING Please be advised that at the November 8, 2011's CEC District 2 meeting the Department of Education (DOE) presented the final plan for re-zoning our Community District. Please find the proposed map presented here. If you have any questions, please contact Lori Levin or Caroline Hall, YCS PTA Co-Presidents at pta@yorkvillecommunityschool.org
We were all so excited to welcome Bill Harley, a two-time Grammy award-winning artist and author to our school on November 2 and 3rd. Bill used song and story to paint an animated and amusing picture of growing up, schooling and family life. With smiles from ear to ear, we would like to extend a huge thank you for both the Sold-Out Bill Harley concert and the two days of works shops that our children enjoyed. Due to the overwhelming generosity of our families we were able to raise over $1200 for our new library! We would like to specifically thank the Turtel Family for introducing us to Bill and underwriting his fee, and the Mischel and McKiernan Families for providing the food and beverage that we all enjoyed. While you are out and about in the neighborhood, please be sure to stop by Luigi's and thank them for the generous discount extended to our school. For additional information check out Bill’s website at www.billharley.com.
Thank you! The third annual fall festival was an incredible success! With gorgeous weather and a wonderful community spirit, the festival beat all expectations. From the smiles on the children's faces to the collegiality of the various teachers and staff, it is clear that at YCS we have built something impressive and special. Of course, the festival could not have been a success without the participation of many parents, underwriters, community members and enrichment partners. We want to extend a heart felt thank you to the event chairs Gabrielle Goldberg and Maria Mischel and the many wonderful volunteers, to the generous family underwriters and corporate donors, to the bakers and our enrichment partners. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of many, YCS was able to raise close to $10,000, much more than we have raised at this event in the previous years. This puts us one step closer to our goal of raising the funds necessary for all of our students to experience the wonderful programs provided by our enrichment partners. From chess to music, each program adds depth to the incredible education that our children are getting at YCS. Once again, Thank you to all that worked so hard to make this year's Fall Festival such an incredible success. - Caroline Hall and Lori Levin
Our one night Scholastic Book Fair held in conjunction with the YCS Curriculum Night was a huge success. The total net sales for the event was $5,602 along with 317 books being donated to the library, approximately 1.3 books per student in our school. Our principal Samantha has $2,900 to spend on resources and books from Scholastic and by holding our fall book fair, YCS will be able to retain 70% of all net sales for our larger Spring Book Fair. Thank you for your generosity, for filling the shelves in our new library with books, and for supporting our wonderful school community. CONGRATULATIONS TO
OUR TWO NEWLY ELECTED MEMBERS-AT-LARGE ELECTED Please join us in congratulating both Carrie Hinrichs and Ellen O’Connell who were elected Members-at-Large and members of the Executive Board at the last General Membership PTA Meeting. They are both delighted and have agreed to head up a special committee that will actively pursue grant opportunities from Corporations and Foundations.
PTA ANNUAL FUNDRAISING APPEAL
The Annual Appeal is a very important way that you can support the YCS school community. The Parent Teacher Association provides support to the principal and staff and assists the school in raising money to provide supplemental educational programs and activities to further enhance the school curriculum. With our new school location and the continued growth of our student body, the economic needs of our school are growing. The goal of the YCS Annual Appeal is 100% participation. The percent participation is an important factor as we apply for grants for additional support of our school from corporations and our elected officials. Funds raised through the Annual Appeal will directly support programs like Asphalt Green recess program, Chess, 92Y, Salvadori, and Aussie staff development. This year, we are requesting a donation of $1,250 per child - but no amount is too small. Given the economic environment, we understand all families may not be able to contribute this amount in full. All donations are welcomed and will have a tremendous impact on efforts to reach our goal of 100% participation. Please consider making your donation right now using our NEW ON-LINE system using your credit card, debit card or PayPal account. All donations will be kept strictly confidential and the YCS PTA is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) corporation. All donations are tax deductible and 100% of the funds will directly benefit our children. Please also check with your employers in order to take advantage of opportunities for corporate matching - an easy way of increasing donations. We look forward to your participation and to continuing to build a vibrant and supportive school community.
